The Montessori Method
The Montessori Method is designed to take full advantage of the “absorbent mind” of the young child. It is a unique cycle of learning developed for the children’s sensitive years between 2.5 and 6, when they can absorb information from an enriched environment. The primary emphasis is upon the total development of the child as a child. It encourages children to learn through their own initiative and at their own rate in a carefully prepared environment, which guarantees exposure to materials and experiences that will enhance the development of their intellectual, physical, social, and psychological abilities. By pursuing their individual interests in a Montessori classroom, they gain an early enthusiasm for learning, which is the key to their becoming truly educated persons. |
